Gillingham midfielder Danny Spiller makes successful return from finger injury for reserves against Wycombe Wanderers
09:12, 24 March 2011
Danny Spiller pulled on a Gillingham shirt for the first time since January on Wednesday as he made his comeback from a finger injury.
The midfielder, pictured, wore a protective cast and played 76 minutes for the reserves in their 3-0 defeat at Wycombe.
Gills manager Andy Hessenthaler said: "He is a passionate lad, he wears his heart on his sleeve and sometimes that can get other players going when they see the amount of effort he puts into it. He looks good in training.
"We have got something he can wear to protect the finger now. It all bodes well for the rest of the campaign."
There was further good news after defender Simon King had a 59-minute runout and showed no reaction to his hamstring injury.
As well as King, Spiller was joined by fellow senior players Josh Gowling, Luke Rooney, Dean Rance and Andy White, but Jon-Paul Pittman’s strike separated the sides at the break.

King was replaced by Callum Davies and Spiller made way for Nathan Nyafli, but with Jack Parter completing the substitutions Gills went down to 10 men when Gowling went off injured with a dead leg in the last five minutes.
Wycombe took advantage of the extra man and scored two late goals through Pittman and Anthony Stewart.
