Gillingham celebrate the win at Oxford Picture: Barry Goodwin
This week I can finally write about an away win and myself along with the rest of the players no longer have to answer the question of "why can’t we win away?"
Not only did we win one game against Oxford, we followed it with a great win at Barnet on Tuesday night.
Back-to-back victories is something that we have not achieved for a long time and it’s something we need to continue if we want to climb further up the league.
What a difference a week has made. I said after the Crewe game that although the result was not good, the atmosphere and spirit of everyone was fairly upbeat. We are starting to get that belief back that we can achieve something this year.
That belief certainly showed against Barnet on Tuesday
night.
After going 1-0 down, on many occasions it has been a case of "here we go again" but the response from the lads was fantastic to not let their heads drop and come back and win the game. It’s still going to take a big effort but we have now set ourselves a base which to build upon.
The last couple of games must have been fantastic for our long suffering supporters who have been great following us all over the country in anticipation for this away win.
Although the duck has been broken at last, we look forward to your continued support and hope now there are many more away-day highs like the week we have had.
With no game this week it gives everyone a chance to recharge from a hectic few weeks.
Also with a few of us out injured it will be a chance to be a week closer to playing without missing any games.
It’s frustrating be injured, especially when the team are buzzing, because you feel a bit of a spare part as it’s hard to feel a part of the team.
Hopefully it won’t be long before we are all back together competing for places.
It hasn’t been a great week for one certain individual this week even though he did score the winner against Oxford (pictured celebrating with Chris Palmer).
Cody ‘the Gooner’ McDonald has been upset by his Arsenal team underperforming and looks set to accept that it’s going to be another disappointing season and the blue and white half of North London are most certainly taking over as the superior team, which brings a smile to my face!
