Gillingham striker Adebayo Akinfenwa raising more eyebrows after impressive display in win over Bradford City
10:06, 07 March 2011
The Bradford City defence was the latest to be rattled by Adebayo Akinfenwa on Saturday – and according to Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler he’s becoming a hot topic of conversation.
The big striker, pictured, headed in the Gills’ opener at Priestfield to take his League 2 goals tally to nine and Hessenthaler said: "He’s a handful and I’m sure the Bradford players and the teams we’ve played over the recent weeks will be talking about him.
"Talking to Dean Holdsworth (the Aldershot manager) on Tuesday, being a centre-forward himself, he loves watching him. He has seen him a few times and he knows what a handful he is.
"I’m glad he is at our football club. He is a gentleman and a top lad. He loves his football, he is a fantastic player to work with and is so passionate.
"People mock him but they can mock him as much as they want. The lad just goes out there and plays football."
