Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler believes the goals for striker Danny Kedwell are just around the corner.

Kedwell got off to a blistering start with AFC Wimbledon last season, scoring six goals in the opening month, but the summer signing has yet to get off the mark for the Gills in their first four games of the current campaign.

"We are not worried," said Hessenthaler. "He will score goals and he knows he will get chances.

"He is working his socks off and creating chances for other people. When they come, he will kick on and will be fine."

With Adam Birchall out injured, Hessenthaler has been working hard to recruit a new partner for Kedwell (pictured) but has so far had no joy.

A new man is again unlikely to be in place before the weekend when Gillingham host Plymouth.

"It’s not easy at the moment," added Hessenthaler. "Everybody is looking for a decent striker. We are looking but we are finding it difficult."

The transfer window for contracted players on permanent moves closes at the end of August but that is unlikely to be of concern for the Gills, who are focusing on loan targets and free agents.

"It would be nice to get a permanent one but we will have to wait and see," said Hessenthaler.

Hessenthaler has seen his options grow with the return of Dennis Oli from a virus. Also back in the squad is Danny Jackman but Chris Whelpdale (leg) looks set to miss out again tomorrow (Saturday).
