Curtis Weston was thrilled to be doing what he loves best on Saturday.

Weston, pictured, netted Gillingham’s winner against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup to send them through to the third round and a tie at home to Premier League Stoke City.

"It was brilliant to have scored the winner – I love scoring goals and there is nothing better," he said.

"We caught everyone off guard with the throw as they wanted to regroup and Charlie (Lee) threw it in quickly. Danny Kedwell got a flick and I just wanted to get something on it.

"I didn’t have a lot of time to think about it and it went in."

Weston has benefited by the fact that loan forwards Jo Kuffour and Frank Nouble were denied permission to play in the FA Cup. That led to a recall for the midfielder.

"It has given me the chance to come in and prove what I can do," he said.

"Because of the quality of the squad some people do get left out and that’s happened to me this season. Hopefully I am doing enough now to stay in the team and I will keep working hard to do that."
