AN 11-year-old girl is urging motorists to slow down and drive safely in a residential road near her school.
Lisa Axford has won a competition to design a safety sign for a newly introduced 20-mph zone for Highfield Road next to Dame Jane juniors in Ramsgate.
Before work was carried out to reduce speed in Highfield Road and the surrounding streets and cul-de-sacs, a survey was carried out and 95 per cent of local residents said ‘yes’ to traffic calming measures.
Kent County Council Highways Advisory Board chairman Graham Gibbens visited the school to congratulate Lisa on her work that was selected from entries from pupils.
Mr Gibbens said: “The winning design is an effective and eye-catching reminder for all motorists to watch their speed in this built up area where there are many school children.
“The new safety scheme has had tremendous local support and I hope everyone will enjoy the benefits of these road modifications.”
