Husband and wife inspired by Margate's art
00:00, 09 July 2008
The sense of space and changing light in Margate that has entranced artists through the centuries proved an irresistible inspiration to Jenny and Alan Welsford.
The results of their efforts can be seen in an exhibition of paintings, drawings and prints called Two Views which is at the Old Town Gallery in Margate from Tuesday to Saturday each week until August 2.
Alan and Jenny met as students at Walthamstow School of Art during the late 1950s, won prizes and travel scholarships including a year in Rome where Alan painted and Jenny paid her way working in the city’s academic library and teaching in the American school.
They have spent their working life in Leicestershire – Alan in fine art at De Montfort University, and Jenny teaching in schools and adult education – but are now exploring Thanet after one of their sons moved to the Kent coast.
The show is open from 2pm-5.30pm.
