Improving the Gillingham defence is boss Andy Hessenthaler's priority

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler will be working on his team’s defence as he sets about rebuilding for another stab at League 2 promotion.
The Gills are the top scorers in the division but they have also got one of the worst defensive records of the teams in the top half of the table.
They have conceded almost twice as many as champions Swindon and it’s an area Hessenthaler knows he has to get right.
"Over the season we have conceded some sloppy goals," he said. "We have had decisions that haven’t gone for us but ultimately as a group we have given silly goals away and that’s really frustrating.
"In the end that’s pretty much what has cost us this season.
"We have to be more solid defensively next season and we have to work on that during the summer. Things will change, I am sure, but ultimately that’s what we have to do.
"We have to be hard to play against over 46 games."
The Gills have been involved in some incredible matches this season, including 5-4 and 6-1 wins over Hereford, along with an excellent 5-2 victory at Torquay.
But in the second half of the season alone, they have on four occasions shipped four goals.
