After four wins in a row to push us back into the play-off places, we have been beaten twice in succession and have dropped out of the top six again.

League 1 is all about consistency. You need to pick up points on a regular basis and put together winning or unbeaten runs. If you lose a match, you have to win the next one.

Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to do that against Exeter last weekend. We didn’t make the most of the chances we created and paid the price.

I don’t believe in regrets, though. I believe in putting things right, and the only way to do that is on the pitch.

Saturday’s defeat was particularly unfortunate because we wanted to put on a good show in front of the club’s biggest crowd of the season.

As players, we knew how much effort went into getting almost 25,000 supporters to pack out The Valley again, and it’s been a long time since we saw crowds like that. The support we received was brilliant, but we weren’t able to make the most of it.

We know all the other teams will be watching us tomorrow night (Friday) when we play Notts County live on Sky.

Despite last week’s defeat against Hartlepool, our away form is still among the best in the division and we want to maintain that.

At the end of next week, Tranmere Rovers come to The Valley, and hearing their name always brings a smile to my face. They were Charlton’s opponents when I scored my one and only goal for the club, back in August 2009, and that’s a very happy memory for me. I hope another goal is coming soon and I definitely want one to come at The Valley.

I don’t get many scoring opportunities, though. My job is to break up the opposition’s attacks, and, as often as not, it’s my role to cover for my team-mates when they attack. I don’t even go up for corners!

We’ve got a new manager this year in Chris Powell, and I definitely feel the club is on its way back.

Against Peterborough, when we were losing at half-time, he simply told us to have the strength to get back in the game. He believes in us. That’s what he said to us – he told us that he believed in us and that we could get back into the game.

It was very powerful, and worked because we scored three times in the second half!
