Inside View with Jose Semedo

Jose Semdo scoring for Charlton against Tranmere earlier in the season

It was good to get back out on the pitch again on Saturday – and great to win against Huddersfield Town.

I only missed four league games but it felt like a lot longer because it was a frustrating injury.

I haven’t had much luck with injuries this year. I missed the second half of last season with an ankle injury, and then I’ve had a pelvic problem in recent weeks.

This latest injury wasn’t nearly as bad as my ankle but it was a lot harder for me.

When I got injured in January I hadn’t been playing every week but this season I’d been a regular in the team so it was even worse when I couldn’t play.

I picked up the injury at Norwich City. I felt a little bit of pain the next day but didn’t think it would be that much of a problem. Unfortunately, it gradually got worse and meant I couldn’t play.

Matt Spring replaced me and has looked good, so I had no expectations that I would go straight back in the side.

I was prepared to wait because it’s for the manager to decide and he knows what I can bring to the team. I came on at half-time, and it was good for me that we went on to win the game.

I don’t care where I play as long as Charlton win but I’m happiest playing in midfield.

I’ve played at right-back and centre-back during my career but in midfield you’re more in the game and you touch the ball more often. I think that suits me.

I also like playing with Therry Racon, because he is such a good player. He has good feet and when you have a player like him in your side, it’s a lot easier. When I get the ball, I just give it to him and he does the rest.

We’ve had three games at home in a row and now we could have four in a row away from home, starting with Gillingham on Saturday. That’s what happens in football, though, and we just have to get on with it.

It was at Gillingham that I first really played in midfield, in a pre-season friendly a few years ago, so we will see how much I’ve improved.

I know there is a bit of rivalry between Charlton and Gillingham, although I don’t know much about it. I just know that everyone wants to win, the same as I do, so that’s all we need to do!
