It looks like a home video howler from You’ve Been Framed or a planned prank by the cast of Jackass – but it is actually two on duty Bexley bobbies mucking about in a local park.

An officer cycles towards a puddle, leaps off and then skims along the water.

He gets up and stands arms extended for praise and his colleague laughs hysterically, running forward, tapping him in congratulations.

The whole video – filmed by another person – is on the YouTube website.

The officers are wearing full uniform, including fluorescent jackets, but Bexley police has been unable to trace the men.

A senior officer believes the stunt could be a training video.

Ch Insp Chris Hafford said: “Dismounting at high speed is an element of the cycling training course and needs to be regularly practised to avoid injury.

“Officers are advised to do this in quiet locations like parks where it can be done safely.”

The film was posted on the video-sharing website in August and is entitled Bexley Heath police – elite unit, and was found by searching for Bexleyheath on the website.

Ch Insp Hafford added: “We were made aware of this footage a short time ago and have made inquiries to try to identify the officers shown, but because the quality of the film is poor we have been unable to positively identify them. In fact, the only clear link to Bexley police is in the title; they could be officers from anywhere in London.

“We continue to look into the matter because we expect the highest standards of behaviour and professionalism from our staff, and the communities of Bexley rightly expect the same.”
