The Island's radio station has won a community award.

BRFM is one of 40 groups and organisations in the south east to be awarded the BT Community Connections Award.

The team has been presented with a laptop and a year's free broadband internet connection.

The aim of the awards is to help community organisations get online and experience the benefits of the internet, as well as helping them develop their skills.

BRFM applied for the award itself.

Julie Nicholls, BRFM's development manager, said: "The laptop is very versatile for us because it's so small and mobile.

"We can use it as part of our training when we go into the schools and on our road shows and in the studio - it's extremely useful for us.

"We are very pleased to win this award."
