A mystery green substance left at the scene of a break-in at a property in Kent resulted in some unusual theories being shared by the investigating officers.
The discovery of the 'slime' was revealed on Twitter this morning by Kent Police CSI.
A picture showed it smeared all over a windowsill and an open window.
The tweet said: "When you attend the scene of a burglary and it looks like Slimer from Ghostbusters has broken in..."
It continued: "Either that or we have little green blooded aliens committing burglaries."
Washing up liquid and shower gel were among the suggestions from people replying on Twitter.
Slimer was a green ghost made entirely from Ectoplasm and is said to have been the first to be caught by the Ghostbusters in the film franchise.
Kent Police was contacted for more information but just before 8.30pm Kent Police CSI tweeted to clarify that the picture had been from "an old incident" and had been shared to show "the lengths offenders go to...to cover up forensics".
