00:01, 13 October 2017

There are now only 73 days until Christmas Day.

With that in mind we thought there was no better time to give you nine things you might want to do before the big day.

1) Save some money

We all know this time of year can be hard on finances. But its not too late to get the piggy bank out and start putting away those pennies. One tip is to look on the discount stores nearer the big day to see what bargains are going. And don't forget to put a limit on how much you can spend on the office Secret Santa.

2) Buy your Christmas jumper

Whether its got giant buttons or flashing red noses, you'll be able to find an overly outrageous Christmas jumper that's right for any silly occasion. You could wear it to the Christmas party or put it on while you enjoy your Turkey on the big day. Either way you should be able to pick one up easily enough at any supermarket or clothes shop.

3) Black Friday

We've all seen the scenes on the news. You go to the supermarket and there are people climbing OVER each other to get the last TV on the shelf. There will be plenty of shops putting on a bargain or two in the county this year. It's also an excellent way to get those Christmas gifts nice and cheap. This year the day is on Friday, November 24.

4) Go and watch the London lights

If you fancy seeing what really makes Christmas then head up to Oxford Street in London. On Tuesday, November 7, the Christmas lights will be switched on for everyone to see with the NSPCC for the second year in a row. This year is the 58th annual switch on and 750,000 LED bulbs will be in use.

5) Get to grips with the Christmas post

The deadline for the last post before Christmas this year is Wednesday, December 20, for second class mail being sent from the UK to another UK address. And if you want to send something by first class post in time for Christmas Day, the Royal Mail recommends getting it in before Thursday, December 21. The deadline is different though for international mail. If you want to send friends or family a card in New Zealand, Australia, Greece or Turkey, you'll need to get it in the post by Saturday, December 9.

6) Get your advent calendar

If chocolate is not your thing we have the perfect guide for a toy advent calendar. You have to order some earlier than others, so do take a look, but you can get Lego and Thomas & Friends calendars. The prices range from a fiver to around £150. Click here to read our complete guide to buying the right advent calendar for you.

7) Make some room in the cupboards

We all know the kids get spoilt at Christmas. Whether its presents or books you'll need to be making some room for all those new gifts. Of course there are some people not so well off, so why not donate the toys you want to get rid of to charity?

8) Get the Christmas tree

Some of us prefer to just dust off the old one from the attic. You could though go out and get you own real Christmas tree. One of the places you could get it from in Kent is Kingswood Christmas Trees in Maidstone. They claim to be the freshest in the county.

9) Buy the Turkey

There are other vegetarian options around as well. Turkey is one of the key parts to the traditional Christmas dinner. The turkey's crown is the most popular part of the animal to have for the meal. There are farms all around Kent which are dedicated to producing the perfect meat for the best dinner they can.
