Jack Parkinson close to making switch from Welling United to Southend United
11:21, 14 July 2011
Welling skipper Jack Parkinson is on the verge of a move to League 2 Southend.
The Wings captain played in two pre-season friendlies with the Essex club this week - and they are keen to complete a deal for the defender.
Parkinson (pictured), who can also play in midfield, joined the Wings from Kent League VCD.
Welling general manager Barry Hobbins confirmed: "We're aware of Southend's interest in the player.
"We're not asking for anything silly as obviously we'd like to see him progress into the Football League."
