ONE of Kent's historic landmarks is back on the horizon.

Chillenden Mill has been pieced back together again using a large crane following its restoration after being blown down by a freak wind 18 months ago.

Chairman of the Friends of Chillenden Mill Paul Allen said: "We are hoping to reopen the mill sometime in June and are looking forward to welcoming visitors back again on Sunday afternoons."

The county and district councils contributed towards the restoration and the mill structure has been strengthened.

Chillenden is a rare example of a Kentish post mill and was the first mill bought by the county council in 1958.

John Williams, the county council's head of heritage conservation, said: "It was wonderful to see the mill rising again and it was felt important to restore it on the original site."
