It doesn't really need to be said but these are challenging times for Kent cricket.

We are in the quarter-finals of the t20 so everything is not lost but there is no doubt, however, that from Rotterdam to Cheltenham to Derby, we weren’t at the races at all.

Is it due to tiredness or a lack of confidence or not being motivated by being out of contention in two of the three competitions? I don’t know. For me, they have all played a part.

Having this week off came at a great time for the team, allowing us to refocus. The skipper has told us to do whatever we feel is right to get us prepared for a massive final push.

We have to draw a line under last week. I urge the supporters to recognise this and get behind us for the rest of the season.

We can all have a moan about how things are at the moment and I would probably be one of the first to get up and say this isn’t right but we have got to turn this around, starting at Worcester on Sunday.

I am not going to dwell on what went wrong in our last three games. I don’t see the point. We have got to look forward rather than back.

I have no doubt we can win the t20 competition and equally that our top order can start churning out hundreds and our bowlers can begin producing match-winning spells.

s a self confessed engine head, I relate our situation to the Formula 1 world motor racing championship. The McLaren team and Lewis Hamilton have taken stick all year about their lack of speed and his driving.

They turned it around magnificently in Germany on Sunday and look to have turned a corner! David Coulthard talks about Hamilton having a break and coming back rejuvenated.

It can be the same for us. The county season is long and hard and as we have seen, teams who get on a roll stay on a roll.

Hopefully, we can show the Kent supporters what this team is capable of and that the future isn’t as grey as it might feel to everybody at the moment.

There is no doubt changes will have to be made at the end of the season for us to progress forward but we are now going to show the Kent cricketing public exactly what we can do when we get it right, hopefully starting at New Road on Sunday. Then comes five important days at Grace Road – first in the championship and then that big day out in the t20. Let’s hope Keysy and Joe are fit for that one.
