What a remarkable week – Azhar and Wahab’s heroics in the t20 win against Gloucestershire at Beckenham, a great comeback against Middlesex at Canterbury and 14 hours later facing an unfriendly track at Lord’s.

Starting with the positives and we are in a great position in the t20 and it looks like our best bet for silverware at the moment.

Wahab’s arrival has given our side a bit of spark. Seeing him bowling 90mph in the dark at Beckenham looked terrifying from side-on. I was happy to be fielding on the boundary rather than walking out to face him.

Jonesy says he is one of the quickest bowlers he has ever kept to. However, I think his greatest asset is bringing Azhar to life.

You can see that Azhar is thinking ‘whatever you can do I can do better!’ He is not moving aside just yet and showed it with a spectacular hundred last week.

The first game under the new floodlights at St Lawrence luckily proved to be a successful night.

It looked horrendous at one stage, to put it mildly This can happen in t20 when you are throwing everything into the bowling. It wasn’t an easy pitch to score quickly on – a little bit sticky and two paced.

Thankfully in the end we managed to pull off a fantastic win for the home crowd.

All the players thought the atmosphere and the lights were impressive and the redevelopment hasn’t finished yet. The ground could really be something special when it’s finished. I know the ground has come in for a lot of criticism in the national press but the changes will be for the best.

Now to the game at Lord’s. What can I say? It was as green as they come and it nibbled around everywhere on the first day – one of the worst ever days in my career so far.

I feel that these Tiflex balls do more than the Dukes ball and with no heavy rollers, it simply favours the bowlers.

The pitch wasn’t as unplayable as at Cardiff but was still extremely hard work.

I just hope I don’t come across a wicket like that again soon. I think Goody (James Goodman) has started his first class career on two of the worst batting wickets around. I feel sorry for him.

Looking forward to this week, we hope to continue our run in the t20 competition against Middlesex at Uxbridge tomorrow (Friday) and then Surrey at Beckenham on Sunday.

Sam Billings is claiming he is the reason for our good run of form.

He has the energy levels of a Duracell battery, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt on that, but Wahab might have something to say about that.
