Kent's set to be flooded with up to 250,000 extra people every day of the Olympics and Paralympics.

That is equivalent to just under the population of Medway - or the populations of Canterbury and Dartford combined - passing through the county daily.

Most will be either staying in Kent or using the roads and public transport to get to Olympic or Paralympic competitions.

Now roads chiefs are calling on firms and ordinary folk to get ready for the influx - with extra pressure expected on our transport systems.

Kent County Council deputy cabinet member for environment, highways and Waste, David Brazier, said: "We had a fantastic celebration with hundreds of thousands of people enjoying the sight of the Olympic torch passing through their local community. In this case, months of careful preparation paid off.

"We know the Games will draw many people into Kent and we want to make sure regular travellers do not get caught out by the increase in visitors.

"Much work has also gone into providing travel and other information for residents and visitors. This can be found on a dedicated website that will help keep Kent moving during this fabulous event."

The webpage joins together everything from travel and transport information, Twitter feeds from KCC’s highways and transportation team, Kent Police updates on crime and links to the London Olympic Committee's Get Ahead of the Games transport site.

It also has links to highlight how Kent will benefit beyond the Games, and where to try out a new sport.
