Kent passengers face train delays after London Bridge signalling problem

Services are now running normally between London Bridge and New Cross following a fault with the signalling system earlier today which saw Kent passengers endure delays on the trains.

A signalling problem in the London Bridge area caused problems around the county, with people having to use Arriva buses between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.

Southeastern reported the problem at about 2.30pm and said it was affecting all trains between Charing Cross and London Bridge.

Travellers were told they could use London buses, Docklands Light railway and London Underground on all reasonable routes to help complete journeys at no extra cost, as well as the High Speed service between St Pancras and Ramsgate.

Some trains were soon able to move, but there were severe delays on services from Tonbridge.

Network Rail worked on getting trains running through the area, but passengers were warned they would likely be travelling at a reduced speed.

Southeastern said at 3.45pm that "services across the majority of the network are disrupted".

People were being advised to check their journey before they left.

An update from Southeastern just after 5.30pm said: "Service disruption is expected to until the end of the day due to earlier signal problems in the London Bridge/New Cross area. London buses, DLR, London Underground and Southern are all accepting passengers on reasonable routes."

Problems did continue for some time but Southeastern was able to announce at 8.16pm that things had cleared.

A statement said: "Services are now running normally between London Bridge and New Cross following a fault with the signalling system earlier today.

"We're very sorry for the disruption today. If you were delayed by 15 minutes or more, please claim delay repay."
