Freaky Halloween weather for Kent: What's in store for the week ahead?

07:00, 16 October 2017

Kent is set for a summer comeback today in a freaky turn of seasons.

The Met Office is reporting temperatures could reach 23C today, with most of the county basking in glorious sunshine.

It's in start contrast to the west coast of the UK and Ireland, where the tail end of storm Ophelia has led to severe weather warnings.

But it's not the first time Kent has been hit by the heat so late in the year.

In 2014 we reported about how the spooky season saw highs of 23.5C as trick or treaters prepared for a hot night of sweet collecting.

Things were even more freaky than that though in 2011 when Gravesend reached 29.9C in October.

At the time experts said it was hotter than Athens, Los Angeles and Barcelona.

Despite not seeing such extreme temperatures this year, it's said to be warmer than it has been with highs recently struggling to reach the 18C mark.

This time last year the mean average temperature stood at 9.8C.
