Historic England adding to list 11 war memorials around Kent
00:01, 11 November 2017
The body in charge of war memorials around the country will list 11 in Kent.
Historic England has announced the tributes will receive extra protection as part of a scheme to safeguard 2,500 memorials by 2018.
The monuments were built by communities after the conflict of the First World War.
Chief executive of Historic England, Duncan Wilson, said:"Researching, recording and recommending up to 2,500 more war memorials for listing over five years is a major task but one that Historic England is proud to undertake.
"These memorials will gain a place on the National Heritage List for England to tell the story of this country’s sacrifice and struggle."
The move is part of a wider project between Historic England and the War Memorials Trust, Civic Voice and the Imperial War Museums to help communities discover and care for the memorials near them.

"Local war memorials are a poignant reminder of how the war affected our communities and of those who never came home.
"I encourage everyone to visit their local memorial and? ?to learn more about their connection to this pivotal point in our history."
