Kent's radio station kmfm and Bargain Hunter UK have today announced that they are teaming up to bring a countywide toy appeal to the radio.

The aim of the 'Give a Gift' appeal is to deliver as many toys to local children who are in hospital over the Christmas period, are in care, and for those less fortunate than others.

You will hear and see the appeal on kmfm, in KM newspapers, on KentOnline and on the Bargain Hunter UK website and app, giving simple ways you can get involved and support the drive.

Peter Nix, the founder of Bargain Hunter UK, said he wanted to be a part of the 'Give A Gift' appeal this year for a reason really close to his heart.

He said: "I am a dad of seven and I couldn't imagine seeing my children not waking up with a smile on Christmas Day.

"When I was in primary school I spent a month in hospital and I felt lost and alone.

"Still to this day I remember being given a Sega Game Gear to play in the hospital which had been donated. Not only did it help time pass but it took my mind away from things going on.

"With the current cost of living it's harder for parents, and families to get by day by day let alone the thought of how they are going to manage with Christmas."

"I have always been a believer in giving back to people, or paying it forward as people say now, so when I was approached in helping with this campaign it really touched my heart knowing that although I can’t make children’s lives a lot better, we can at least give them a little something this Christmas to bring a smile to their faces.

"I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone that has already donated some amazing gifts! Seeing such kindness and willingness to help in such a time is so heartwarming."

Garry and Chelsea, from kmfm Breakfast, said: "We know it’s going to be a tough festive season financially for everyone.

"But we also know those in Kent that can will help us with our 'Give A Gift' toy appeal. We have incredibly generous listeners."

The toy appeal is live now, having launched on kmfm Breakfast this morning with Garry and Chelsea, and will close on November 27 before the kmfm and Bargain Hunter teams start delivering the toys.

The team behind the huge toy drive asked for any toys not to be wrapped so that they can make sure they are matched with a child of an appropriate age.

They are also unable to accept second-hand toys or those which contain sweets/chocolate or any other confectionery.
