Large turnout expected at anti-war rally
00:00, 28 March 2003
HUNDREDS of people are expected to attend a rally and march protesting about the war on Iraq in Ramsgate on Saturday.
It is being organised by the Thanet Stop the War Coalition who want to “send a strong message to the government indicating the depth of unhappiness with the present hostilities".
The march will begin at 1pm at the Boundary Road Park and end at the Ramsgate Industrial Museum where there will be a number of speakers.
Particular target of the march is South Thanet MP Steve Ladyman who is a strong supporter of the Government's line.
Coalition spokesman John Curtis said: "The fact that the bombs have started landing on Iraq means that it's all the more important we demonstrate both to the government and to Dr Ladyman that the stop the war movement is here and getting stronger."
