Fans unable to buy tickets for Sunday’s glamour FA Cup tie between Gillingham and Aston Villa are being offered a last-minute chance to go to the game - but only if they make a generous bid to help children.

Kent Reliance Building Society has teamed up exclusively with www.medwaymessenger.co.uk, and our radio station, kmfm, for a charity auction which invites bids for a hospitality box at the KRBS Priestfield Stadium for the match which kicks off at 1.30pm.

The box, which can accommodate eight people, would normally cost around £2,000 and Kent Reliance is hoping to raise a good amount from the auction.

Proceeds will be shared between the Giraffe Appeal, which is raising money for the Oliver Fisher special care baby unit at Medway Maritime Hospital, and the Quid 4 a Kid campaign run by Kent Reliance to help children at an orphanage in Mangalore, India.

Kent Reliance is a big supporter of children’s chairites in India where it employs more than 100 people in a processing and call centre.

The Quid 4 a Kid scheme aims to raise half a million pounds to build a safe and secure home for the children infected with HIV/Aids.

Mike Lazenby, Kent Reliance chief executive, said the children who may have been born with the virus or contracted it through their parents have a very short life expectancy that often does not extend past their teens.

"There are 64 children living in a rented house that occupies a piece of land measuring just 1,500 square feet," he said. "At least another 20 children are waiting for a place. The rented accommodation they occupy could be taken away with very little notice and that would leave these innocent children homeless. "

Bids for the box should be emailed to krbspressoffice@krbs.com by 3pm on Saturday January 3.
