From shoplifters to drink-drivers - here are some of the people to face justice in Kent's magistrates courts this week.

West Malling man jailed for shoplifting

Anthony James Bashfield stole two kitchen mixers worth £900 from a shop in Kingstanding Way, Tunbridge Wells.

The 42-year-old was sentenced to 30 days in prison and must also pay £900 compensation.

The overall length of his sentence is 120 days as the offence was committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence.

Hildenborough man banned after failing to provide a breath specimen

Vasili Grisciuc has been banned from driving for 20 months and must carry our 40 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

The 29-year-old must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge after failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis in Ightham.

The 20 month driving ban can be reduced by five months if, by December 2017, he satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State, the cost of which will not exceed £250.

Man handed fine and prison sentence for shoplifting

Vitalijus Vitkus, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to shoplifting but magistrates convicted him of the offence.

The 26-year-old stole blue ray discs worth £75 from a supermarket in Farleigh Hill, Maidstone.

Magistrates sentenced him to 21 days in prison and he must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Maidstone women given driving ban and fine for drink driving

Marissha Khan, who gave a breath test of 107 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath won't be driving for two years.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The 47-year-old must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

The driving ban can be reduced by 184 days if, by 3 March 2018, she satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State, the cost of which will not exceed £250.

Dover man handed fine and prison sentence for shoplifting

Paul Philip Raworth stole a DVD player worth £84 from a supermarker in Honeywood Road, Dover.

The 48-year-old was sentenced to 45 days in prison must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Folkestone women given driving ban and handed fine

Janine Brown pleaded guilty to drink driving after giving a breath test of 74 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The 46-year-old has been banned from driving for 18 months and must also pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

The ban can be reduced by 137 days if, by 15 October 2017, she satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State.

Margate man charged for shoplifting offence

Kirk Peter Holt has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after stealing e-cigarettes worth £76.96 from a shop in High Street, Margate.

The 26-year-old must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Ashford man handed hefty driving ban

Paul Daniel Rogers failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

The 34-year-old has been banned from driving for 36 months and must also pay a £300 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Disqualification can be reduced by 273 days if, by December 2018, he satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State.

Driving ban and fine handed to Ashford man

Adam Matthem Aldridge gave a urine test of 204 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine.

The legal limit is 107 milligrammes.

The 31-year-old has been banned from driving for 36 months.

He must also pay a £350 fine, £85 costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

Disqualification can be reduced by 273 days if, by December 2018, he satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State.

Ashford man given prison sentence after shoplifting

He pleaded common assault and two counts of shoplifting.

Liam Patrick O'Connor stole meat worth £167 from a supermarket in Sir Bernard Paget Avenue, Ashford.

The 43-year-old also stole meat worth £36.99 and assaulted a man at a supermarket in High Street, Ashford.

O’Connor has been sentenced to 20 weeks in prison and must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Willesborough man ordered to carry out unpaid work

Thomas Terry Flynn pleaded guilty to criminal damage, using threatening or abusive words or behaviour and assaulting a police officer.

The 20-year-olddamaged fencing worth an unknown amount, used threatening or abusive words or behaviour and assaulted a police officer in Dallas Brett Crescent, Folkestone.

Flynn has been ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months and must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Hythe man handed driving ban and unpaid work

Darren Carter pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, drink driving, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis.

The 44-year-old took a Seat Leon without the owner’s consent and drove it in Dover Road, Folkestone, with no insurance.

Carter had a quantity of cannabis in his possession and gave a breath test of 51 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

He is banned from driving for 16 months and must carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Aylesham teen given curfew and unpaid work

Paul Jake Williams caused £30 of damage to a vehicle in Kings Road, Aylesham, £600 worth of damage to a fence at an address in Kings Road and £100 worth of damage to another vehicle in Kings Road.

The 18-year-old also assaulted two police officers.

Williams must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

Magistrates also gave him a six-month curfew to remain at home between 8pm and 6am daily until May 2017 .

He must also pay £330 compensation.

Driving ban and fine handed to Ramsgate man

Garry Glenn Everard drove a Land Rover Discovery in High Street, Wingham, and gave a breath test of 65 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The 51-year-old leaded not guilty to drink driving but was convicted of the offence by magistrates.

Everard is banned from driving for 18 months and must also pay a £625 fine, £1,000 costs and a £63 victim surcharge.

The ban can be reduced by 137 days if, by 16 October 2017, he satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State.

Margate man to serve 120 days in prison for assault

Jason Paul Savage assaulted a man outside a supermarket in Sturry Road, Canterbury.

The 34-year-old also made threats towards a woman in Cumberland Avenue, Canterbury, putting her in fear of violence.

Magistrate sentenced Savage to 120 days in prison, suspended for 12 months and he must also pay £100 compensation, £170 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Ramsgate man sent to prison for knife possession

David John William Gallacher had a kitchen knife in his possession in Charlotte Court, Ramsgate.

The 46-year-old must serve 90 days in prison and must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Folkestone man sentenced for shoplifting

Lachhuman Thapa stole coffee and confectionary worth £28.87 from a service station in Cheriton High Street, Folkestone.

A few days later, he stole coffee and confectionary worth £123.07 from the same service station.

The 27-year-old also had two foiled-lined and covered paper cups for use in connection with theft in Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

Thapa was sentenced to 112 days in prison, and because the offences were committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence, the overall length of his sentence is 224 days.

He must also pay £75 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Prison sentence and fine for shoplifting Folkestone man

Saroj Tamang stole coffee and confectionary worth £96.90 from a service station in Cheriton High Street, Folkestone.

On two separate accounts he stole coffee and confectionary worth £28.37 and coffee and confectionary worth £123.07 from the same service station.

The 27-year-old also had two foil-lined and covered paper cups for use in connection with theft in Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

Magistrates sentenced Tamang to 112 days in prison and because the offences were committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence, the overall length of his sentence is 196 days.

He must also pay £171 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Dartford women sentenced for shoplifting

Sarah Brookes Ripley pleaded guilty to three counts of shoplifting and two counts of refusing to provide a sample for a class A drugs test.

The 37-year-old stole six bottles of perfume worth £48.94 from a shop in Prospect Place, Dartford, stole chocolate worth £80 from a shop in High Street, Swanscombe and stole groceries worth £83 from a shop in Hawley Road, Dartford.

Ripley was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for one year.

She must also pay £163 compensation.

Sittingbourne women sent to prison

She pleaded guilty to shoplifting and failing to surrender to court bail.

Carlene Ripley stole various items worth £451.06 from a supermarket in Dynamo Way, Gillingham.

The 32-year-old also failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Ripley must serve 120 days in prison, suspended for 12 months.

She must also pay £451 compensation and a £100 fine.

Prison, suspension, unpaid work and fines for Kent man

He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and drink driving.

Algis Kuliesius drove a Ford Transit in Yoksuka Way, Gillingham, while disqualified and with no insurance.

The 31-year-old gave a breath test of 106 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Kuliesius was sentenced to 120 days in prison, suspended for three years, ordered him to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months and banned him from driving for four years.

He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Man sentenced for multiple convictions

Gavin O'Connor pleaded guilty to burglary, using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, failing to surrender to court bail and three counts of shoplifting.

The 32-year-old stole two fragrances worth £34 from a supermarket at a shopping centre in Greenhithe, an electric razor worth £299.99 from a shop at a shopping centre in Greenhithe and burgled a supermarket in Thames Way, Gravesend, and stole a TV worth £400.

O'Connor also used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a man, causing him harassment, alarm and distress.

He also stole food, drinks and toiletries worth £16.79 from a supermarket and failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Court sentenced O’Connor to 120 days in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

He must also pay a £50 fine, £468 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Dartford man handed two year driving ban

Sam Cuthbertson pleaded guilty to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, drink driving and driving without insurance.

The 20-year-old, of Cumberland Drive, Dartford, drove a Vauxhall Astra in Lordswood Lane, Chatham, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance.

He gave a breath test of 92 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Cuthbertson is banned from driving for 24 months and must also pay a £375 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Disqualification can be reduced by 184 days if, by March 2 2018, he satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State.

Chatham man in prison for burglary

Kenneth Frank Mills broke into an arts centre in Military Road, Chatham, and stole two mobile phones and an unknown amount of cash.

Magistrates sentenced the 40-year-old to 56 days in prison.

Chatham women won't be driving for three years

Billy-Jo Ellis pleaded guilty to drug driving, driving while unfit through drugs, two counts of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and two counts of driving without insurance.

The 25-year-old drove a Vauxhall Astra in Snodhurst Avenue, Chatham, otherwise than in accordance with a licence, with no insurance and while unfit through drugs.

Ellis also drove a Vauxhall Corsa in North Dane Way, Chatham, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance.

She also gave a blood test of 133 microgrammes of Benzoylecgonine per litre of blood.

The threshold limit is 50 microgrammes.

She has been banned from driving for three years and must also pay £170 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Rochester man sent to prison

Ronalds Berzins pleaded guilty to criminal damage, possession of cannabis and two counts of being drunk and disorderly.

The 32-year-old was drunk and disorderly in Maidstone Road, Chatham and on a different day he damaged a window worth £85 at a bar in New Road, Rochester, and had a quantity of cannabis in his possession.

On another account he was also drunk and disorderly in Palace Avenue, Maidstone.

Magistrates sentenced Berzins to 21 days in prison and because the offences were committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence, the overall length of his sentence is 134 days.

He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Gillingham man fined and sent to prison for shoplifting

Daniel Edward Baldock stole a bicycle worth £143.99 from a shop in Batchelor Street, Chatham and six Apple TV units worth £944 from a shop at a shopping centre in Geenhithe.

The 30-year-old also he failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced Baldock to 120 days in prison.

He must also pay a £50 fine and a £115 victim surcharge.

Chatham man put away for drink driving

Maris Eglite pleaded not guilty to drink driving, but was convicted of the offence by magistrates.

The 49-year-old drove an Audi A4 in Otway Terrace, Chatham, and gave a breath test of 115 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He must now serve 160 days in prison, suspended for 18 months, and carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months and is banned from driving for 36 months.

He must also pay £150 compensation, £620 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
