Shoplifters and drink drivers are among our round up of criminals who have been hauled in front of Kent's magistrates.

Shoplifter behind bars

Louis Basil, of no fixed address, stole clothing worth £182 from a shop in Westwood Road, Broadstairs.

Magistrates sentenced the 36-year-old to 90 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Driver banned

Charles Richard Grossmith, of Milton Avenue, Margate, drove a Hyundai Amica in the town's Ramsgate Road, and gave a breath test of 82 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The 59-year-old was banned from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £250 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Shoplifter sentenced

Shane Michael Sharland, of no fixed address, stole three pairs of sunglasses worth £436.94 from a shop in Kimberley Way, Ashford.

Magistrates sentenced Sharland to 74 days in prison. He must also pay £276 compensation.

Meat thief spared jail

Michael William Kemp, of Beacon Road, Broadstairs, pinched meat worth £35 from a supermarket in College Walk, Margate.

He also took meat valued at 46.98 from the same supermarket.

Magistrates sentenced the 37-year-old to 60 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay £35 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Whitstable man fined

Terry Paul Willett, of Long Rock, Whitstable, had an extendable flexi baton and a folding pocket knife in his possession in Sturry Road, Canterbury.

On February 6, he drove a Vauxhall Astra in Maynard Road, Canterbury, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates sentenced the 31-year-old to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for two years. He must also pay £200 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Drug driver banned

Jonathan Norman, of Clements Road, Ramsgate, drove a Peugeot 407 in Bellevue Road, Ramsgate, while unfit through drugs.

Magistrates banned the 41-year-old from driving for 22 months. He was also ordered to pay a £63 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Folkestone man jailed

Lachhuman Thapa, of Shaftesbury Avenue, Folkestone, stole groceries worth £61.09 from a service station in Cheriton High Street, Cheriton.

Magistrates sentenced the 28-year-old to 60 days in prison. He must also pay £30 compensation.

Driver given unpaid work

Ricky Lee Howard, of Garner Drive, Aylesham, drove an Audi A4 in Kings Road, Aylesham, with no insurance and failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

Magistrates banned the 28-year-old from driving for 36 months and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

He must also pay £300 compensation, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Drink driver fined

Benjamin Charles Antoine Nundy, of Octavian Drive, Hythe, drove a Volkswagen Polo in Harold Street, Dover, and gave a breath test of 85 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 22-year-old from driving for 20 months. He must also pay a £250 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Ashford shoplifter behind bars

Robert Stephen Bishop, of Beech Drive, Ashford, stole perfumes worth £140 from a shop in Barrey Road, Ashford.

He also took meat worth £30 from a shop in Brookfield Court, Ashford, took more meat worth £20 from the same shop in Brookfield Court and perfumes worth £50 from the same shop in Barrey Road.

Magistrates sentenced the 29-year-old to 28 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink driver disqualified

Gary Derek Moore, of King Street, Ramsgate, drove a Peugeot 207 in Bromstone Road, Broadstairs, and gave a breath test of 91 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 49-year-old from driving for 23 months. He must also pay a £430 fine, £85 costs and a £43 victim surcharge.

Dover driver in court

Josh Vowles, of Kimberley Close, Dover, drove a Ford Transit on the A256, Ramsgate, and gave a breath test of 85 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 27-year-old from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Ramsgate man jailed... for 10 days

Colin Robert Ayres, of Royal Road, Ramsgate, stole jackets worth £319.97 from a shop in Margate Road, Broadstairs.

Magistrates sentenced the 28-year-old to 10 days in prison. He must also pay a £440 fine and a £44 victim surcharge.

Teen spared jail

Jack Pocock, of Royal Crescent, Margate, damaged a window worth £411.12 at Margate Police Station.

He also assaulted a man at an address in Beech Road, Westgate on Sea, damaged a door worth £350, a cabinet worth £700 and assaulted the same man at an address in Beach Road.

Magistrates sentenced Pocock to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £661 compensation and £85 costs.

Pensioner guilty ofassault

Raymond David Mallon, of High Street, Margate, assaulted a man in High Street, Margate, causing him actual bodily harm.

Magistrates sentenced the 75-year-old to 120 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

10-year driving ban

Robert Paul Reynolds, of Station Road, Cuxton, drove a Vauxhall van in Bush Road, Cuxton, while disqualified and with no insurance. He also gave a breath test of 74 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates sentenced the 57-year-old to six months in prison, suspended for two years, banned him from driving for 10 years and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

He must also pay a £600 fine, £650 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Shoplifter jailed

Sean Michael Campion, of no fixed address, stole steak worth £36 from a supermarket in High Street, Chatham.

He also stole an angle grinder worth £30 from a shop in The Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham, took two packs of bacon worth an unknown amount from a supermarket in Gillingham Road, Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced the 51-year-old to 90 days in prison.

Burglar spared prison

Patrick William McConkey, of no fixed address, broke into a shed at an address in Saxon Close, Gravesend, and stole fishing equipment worth £4,500.

Magistrates sentenced the 33-year-old to 180 days in prison, suspended for 18 months. He also has to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Gravesend teen guilty of driving offences

Branislav Mizigar, of Dickens Road, Gravesend, drove a Fiat Punto in Harmer Street, Gravesend, while disqualified and with no insurance.

He also gave a breath test of 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 19-year-old from driving for three years. He must also pay a £400 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Dartford man loses licence

Andrzej Darius Sokol, of Burnham Crescent, Dartford, drove a BMW 528 in Hythe Street, Dartford, with no insurance and gave a breath test of 136 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates sentenced the 43-year-old to eight weeks in prison and banned him from driving for 37 months. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Gillingham woman failed to comply

Julia Pamela Peers, of Priestfield Road, Gillingham, failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis in Wainscott.

On February 1, she failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates banned the 46-year-old from driving for three years and ordered her to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. She must also pay a £50 fine, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Perfume and meat pinched

Naomi Bignall, of Stopford Road, Gillingham, stole meat worth £41 from a shop in Delce Road, Rochester.

She stole groceries worth £80 from a supermarket in Chalkwell Road, Sittingbourne, and groceries worth £117.32 from a shop in Gadby Road, Sittingbourne, took meat worth £100 from the same supermarket in Chalkwell Road and pinched groceries worth £30 from the same supermarket.

She also stole meat worth £25 from a shop in Quartz Way, Sittingbourne, stole alcohol worth £68 from a supermarket in Mill Way, Sittingbourne, and took fragrances worth £250 from a shop in Fremlin Walk, Maidstone.

Magistrates sentenced the 35-year-old to 77 days in prison. She must also pay £393 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.
