Kent's magistrates have been dishing out justice with drivers being disqualified and people being locked away. Here is a round up of what has been going on.

Man sent to prison after burglary attempt

Kray Still, of Wakefield Road, Greenhithe, attempted to break into an outbuilding and steal a caravan from the garden of an address in Three Gates Road, Longfield.

He also had items including a crowbar, hacksaw and a car jack in his possession, for use in connection with theft.

Magistrates sentenced the 23-year-old to 290 days in prison. He must also pay £100 compensation.

Dartford driver banned

Patryk Galecki, of Priory Road, Dartford, drove a Toyota Avensis in Burnham Road, Dartford, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates banned the 23-year-old from driving for 18 months and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay a £300 fine, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Burglar spared jail

James Daniel George Rudd, of Maidstone Road, Rochester, broke into a boat moored at Esplanade, Rochester, and stole alcohol and tools worth an unknown amount. He also had a quantity of cannabis in his possession.

Magistrates sentenced the 21-year-old to 90 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink driver given unpaid work

Genadijs Jegorovs, of Peacock Street, Gravesend, drove a Volkswagen Golf in Thames Way, Northfleet, with no insurance and gave a breath test of 119 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 22-year-old from driving for 24 months and ordered him to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £170 costs.

Thief behind bars

Patryk Kwasny, of Park Avenue, Gillingham, stole an electronic cigarette worth £60 from a vehicle in Napier Road, Gillingham. He also assaulted a police officer and had a lock knife in his possession.

And he stole items worth an unknown amount from a vehicle in Cleave Road, Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced 20-year-old to eight weeks in prison. He must also pay £50 compensation.

Gillingham man banned from driving

Mark Daniel Finch, of King Edward Road, Gillingham, failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis in Gillingham.

Magistrates banned the 30-year-old from driving for 36 months and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Pensioner fined for driving offences

Jasminder Singh, of Fordwich Drive, Strood, drove a BMW in Rochester Road, Gravesend, and gave a breath test of 71 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 67-year-old from driving for 19 months. He must also pay a £650 fine, £85 costs and a £65 victim surcharge.

Man accused of driving offences sentenced

Iqbal Shadi, of Carrington Road, Dartford, drove a Ford KA in London Road, Dartford, with no insurance and gave a urine test of 213 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine. The legal limit is 107 milligrammes. He also failed to stop the vehicle after a road accident where damage was caused to another vehicle.

Magistrates sentenced the 54-year-old to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months and banned him from driving for 40 months. He must also pay a £115 fine and £775 costs.

Shoplifter jailed

Ross Adam Collins, of Shipwright’s Avenue, Chatham, stole washing detergent worth £126 from a shop in Twydall Green, Gillingham, meat and baby milk worth £55 from a shop in Canterbury Street, Gillingham, and cheese and chicken worth £17 from the same shop.

He also took coffee worth £20 from the same shop in Twydall Green and meat worth £100 from the same shop in Canterbury Street and washing powders and liquids worth £25 from the same shop in Canterbury Street.

Magistrates sentenced the 34-year-old to 180 days in prison. He must also pay £343 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Ramsgate man guilty of breaking driving laws

Daniel John Wisdom, of Brockman’s Close, Minster, Ramsgate, drove an MG ZR in High Street, Minster-on-Sea, Sheerness, while disqualified, with no insurance, without a test certificate and without due care and attention.

Magistrates sentenced the 25-year-old to 120 days in prison and banned him from driving for two years and 60 days (790 days). He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Margate thug guilty of assault

Bradley Stephen Pilcher, of Mere Gate, Margate, assaulted a man in The Silvers, Broadstairs, causing him actual bodily harm.

Magistrates sentenced the 24-year-old to 150 days in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered him to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £750 compensation and £150 costs.

Man from Ramsgate spared prison

Ronald Egbert Day, of West Cliff Road, Ramsgate, took a Talbot caravan without the owner’s consent and drove it in Royal Road, Margate, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance. He also failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

He also used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a man at a social club in Broad Street, Ramsgate, causing him to fear violence, had a quantity of cannabis in his possession in Margate Road, Ramsgate and damaged an advertising sign worth £200 in Queen Street, Ramsgate.

Magistrates sentenced the 49-year-old to 180 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, banned him from driving for 18 months and gave him a four month curfew to remain at an address in Westbrook Road, Ramsgate, between 9pm and 6am daily. The curfew runs until 23 August 2017. He must also pay £500 compensation and an £80 fine.

Margate man carried a knife

Hugh James McGuinness, of Dane Mount, Margate, had a serrated kitchen knife in Dane Mount.

Magistrates sentenced the 46-year-old to 72 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Burglar behind bars

Michael Rowe, of Stringer Drive, Birchington, burgled a garage at an address in Broadley Road, Margate, with the intent to steal.

Magistrates sentenced 21-year-old to 120 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Driver banned

Andrew Weatherall, of Plover Close, Herne Bay, drove an Audi Avant in Reculver Road, Herne Bay, while unfit to drive through drugs.

Magistrates banned the 42-year-old from driving for three years. He must also pay a £600 fine, £300 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

Ashford man guilty of ABH

Phillip Weller, of Sandy Place, Ashford, assaulted two police officers at an address in Sandy Place, causing them actual bodily harm.

Magistrates sentenced the 57-year-old to 26 weeks in prison, suspended for 24 months. He must also pay £250 compensation, £150 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Broadstairs drink driver sentenced

Anthony Harris, of Stanley Road, Broadstairs, drove a Jaguar in a supermarket car park in Westwood Road, Broadstairs, and gave a breath test of 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 56-year-old from driving for 20 months. He must also pay a £110 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Tenterden driver disqualified

James Edmondson, of Wittersham, Tenterden, drove a Volkswagen van in Robyn Hood Lane, Lydd, and gave a breath test of 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 35-year-old from driving for 18 months and ordered him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Man behind bars for eight weeks

Simon Bennett, of Grace Hill, Folkestone, made off without paying for petrol worth £51 from a service station in Cheriton High Street, Folkestone and he drove a Ford KA on the A249, Brenzett, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates sentenced the 27-year-old to eight weeks in prison and banned him from driving for two years.

Folkestone man assaulted police officer

James William Faragher, of Weymouth Road, Folkestone, assaulted a police officer at a bar in Cheriton Place, Folkestone.

Magistrates sentenced the 25-year-old to 19 weeks in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Canterbury man banned from being behind the wheel

Tyler Michael Williams, of St Martin’s Road, Canterbury, drove a Ford Focus in New Haine Road, Broadstairs, and gave a breath test of 86 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 21-year-old from driving for 20 months. He must also pay a £300 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Whitstable driver banned

Nicholas Gore, of Swallow Avenue, Whitstable, drove a Ford Focus in Old Thanet Way, Herne Bay, and gave a breath test of 60 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 38-year-old from driving for five years. He must also pay a £600 fine, £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

Margate man forced to hand over licence

Dainius Jankauskas, of Cliff Terrace, Margate, drove an Audi A4 in Cliff Terrace, while disqualified and with no insurance. He gave a breath test of 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 42-year-old from driving for 36 months and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Hythe resident guilty

Aaron Richards, of Fort Road, Hythe, used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour and assaulted a woman at a hall in St Nicholas Road, Hythe, using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a woman at a shop in Horn Street, Folkestone and he stole numerous items worth an unknown amount and assaulted a woman at a shop in Bouverie Road West, Folkestone.

He also took jeans worth £10 from a shop in Bouverie Place Shopping Centre, Folkestone.

Magistrates sentenced the 35-year-old to 180 days in prison. He must also pay £100 compensation.

Driver sent to jail

Liam Dellaway, of Dunstall Gardens, Romney Marsh, made off without paying for diesel worth £117.52 from a service station in Maidstone Road, Ashford.

He also drove a Vauxhall Combo in Dymchurch Road, Romney Marsh, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance. He also failed to stop the vehicle when required to do so by a police officer and made off without paying for diesel worth £82.71 from a service station in Dymhurch Road, Hythe.

Magistrates sentenced the 22-year-old to 180 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Elderly drink driver banned

Walter Bastow, of West Cliff Road, Broadstairs, drove an Audi SQ5 in St Peter’s Park Road, Broadstairs, and gave a breath test of 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 80-year-old from driving for three years. He must also pay a £768 fine, £85 costs and a £76 victim surcharge.

Minster man handled stolen goods

Jordan Stanford, of Durlock, Minster, handled two stolen lawnmowers and a strimmer worth £565, a stolen strimmer worth £130 and a stolen strimmer and rotavator worth £400.

Magistrates ordered the 28-year-old to carry out 210 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £547 compensation and £85 costs.

Drink driver disqualified

Kaspars Romka, of Royal Esplanade, Margate, drove a BMW 318 on the A256, Sandwich, and gave a breath test of 104 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 32-year-old from driving for 26 months and ordered him to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Deal man given ban and unpaid work

Lenny Hough, of Goodwin Close, Deal, drove a Renault Scenic in High Street, Ramsgate, and gave a breath test of 110 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Matthew Lonie, of Hyde Place, Aylesham, drove a BMW 320 on the A2, Wincheap, and gave a breath test of 106 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Unpaid work for ABH crime

Norman Terry Clark, of Centenary Gardens, Sandwich, assaulted a man at a garage in Cannon Street, Deal, causing him actual bodily harm.

Magistrates ordered the 64-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £2,000 compensation, £750 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Man sent to jail for nearly a year for 19 offences

Mark Timothy Lees, of Old Park Avenue, Canterbury, stole a television and a sound bar speaker worth £278 from a supermarket in Sturry Road, Canterbury, a hoover and a sound bar speaker worth £180 from a supermarket in Kingsmead, Canterbury, made off without paying a taxi fare worth £41 in Querns Road, Canterbury and stole men’s clothing from a shop in Stour Crescent, Canterbury.

He also took three fragrances worth £288 from a shop in Guildhall Street, Canterbury, two perfume gift sets worth £127.50 from a shop in Gravel Walk, Canterbury, assaulted a man and stole two sound bar speakers worth £118 from a supermarket in Sturry Road, Canterbury and stole bags worth an unknown amount from a shop in Stour Crescent, Canterbury. He also stole two sound bars and two speakers worth £140 from a shop in Marshwood Close, Canterbury.

As well as that he stole a hoover worth £70 and a hoover worth £60 from two shops in Marshwood Close, took a baby’s clothing worth £100 from a shop in Stour Crescent, Canterbury, alcohol worth £84 from a supermarket in Kingsmead Road, Canterbury and drove a Peugeot 207 in Romney Marsh Road, Ashford, while disqualified and with no insurance. He also stole four fragrances worth £184.50 and assaulted a woman at a shop in Ten Perch Road, Canterbury.

He stole toys and baby items worth £164.95 from a shop in Marshwood Close, Canterbury, two bottles of cognac worth £57 from a supermarket in St George’s Centre, Canterbury, two bomber jackets worth £189.98 from a shop in St Margaret’s Street, Canterbury, a ladies denim jacket worth £79.99 from the same shop and two bottles of cognac worth £54 from a supermarket in Sturry Road, Canterbury.

He also stole three bottles of cognac worth £96 from the same supermarket in St George’s Centre. He also stole two bottles of whisky worth £41.99 from a shop in St Dunstan’s Street, Canterbury, two bottles of vodka worth £79.98 from the same shop in St Dunstan’s Street and three bottles of vodka worth £113.90 from a supermarket in Ten Perch Road, Canterbury.

Magistrates sentenced the 32-year-old to 360 days in prison. He must also pay £300 compensation.

Ashford man spared jail

Richard Marc Floyd, of Gravelly Field, Ashford, made off without paying a taxi fare worth £10 in Cuckoo Lane, Ashford. He also assaulted the taxi driver and caused £1,065.12 worth of damage to a car door.

Magistrates sentenced the 30-year-old to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and gave him a six week curfew to remain at an address in Merlin Way, Ashford, between 8pm and 5am daily. The curfew runs until 13 June 2017. He must also pay £1,325 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Man in his 40s sent to jail

Terence Alan Howard, of Ethelbert Crescent, Margate, stole chocolates worth £77.07 from a service station in Canterbury Road, Margate, a sat nav worth £100 from a vehicle in Northdown Park Road, Margate and four chocolate boxes worth £50 from a service station in Canterbury Road, Margate. He also stole chocolates and ready meals worth £46.37 from the same shop on a second occasion.

He also took chocolate worth £153.91 from the same service station and food items worth £138.12 from the same service station.

Magistrates sentenced the 44-year-old to 120 days in prison. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink driver was over the limit

Ojars Ivansins, of Down Court, Ashford, drove a Saab 93 in Beaver Lane, Ashford, and gave a breath test of 133 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates sentenced the 43-year-old to 12 weeks in prison and banned him from driving for ten years. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Ashford man behind bars

Jade Wood, of Towers View, Ashford, assaulted a woman at an address in Friesian Way, Ashford, causing her actual bodily harm.

Magistrates sentenced the 28-year-old to 26 weeks in prison. She must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Pensioner in court over driving offences

Peter Lockwood Mitchell Evans, of St Stephen’s Square, Maidstone, drove a Land Rover on the A260, Folkestone, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance. He also gave a breath test of 97 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 78-year-old from driving for two years. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Guilty plea for man with controlled drug

Damien Ashley Jones, of no fixed address, assaulted a police officer at a shop in Hopeville Avenue, Broadstairs and he had 6g of ‘spice’ in his possession in Margate.

Magistrates sentenced the 32-year-old to 12 weeks in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.
