LITTER-PICKING events will be sweeping along rivers and streams in an effort to clear waterside footpaths of litter.

Volunteers are sought for several clean-ups happening alongside the River Medway next week.

The first is at Branbridges Industrial Estate, East Peckham, on Saturday, August 30, from 2pm to 4pm, followed by a clean-up at Tonbridge Racecourse sports ground on Sunday, August 31 from 10.30am until 1pm.

Anyone interested in helping can turn up on the day and equipment will be provided.

The scheme is a partnership between local authorities along a stretch of the River Medway, including Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, Maidstone Borough Council and the Medway Valley Countryside Partnership.

The countryside partnership also runs a River Medway litter warden scheme and anyone interested in taking up the post can call 01622 683695 or e-mail medwayvalley@kent.gov.uk for more information.
