Ministers hit out against plans to increase National Insurance to pay for social care reform

Claims that the government want to increase National Insurance payments to pay for a reform to social care have been met with fierce criticism.

Experts say that the hike would unfairly hit the young and low-income earners the most - and backbench MPs from the government have even spoken out against the idea.

But what is the current state of the care system - and if it does need reforming, how else could it be paid for?

On tonight's live-streamed episode of The Lowdown our host Oliver Kemp was joined by Nadra Ahmed OBE, chair of the National Care Association based in Medway.

He was also joined by KentOnline's political editor, Paul Francis.

The Lowdown is a daily show live-streamed Monday to Thursday at 6pm - here on KentOnline, Facebook and Twitter, and KMTV.
