Police officers saved the life of a man who tried to hang himself in a disused shop doorway.

Officers were alerted by a member of the public who saw the man suspended in the foyer of the empty Premus store in Bank Street, Maidstone, around 10pm on Sunday night.

Police cut the man down and gave him CPR until ambulance crews arrived. The 31-year-old man from Maidstone was taken to Maidstone Hospital where he is now in a stable condition.
