An inquest is due to be opened today after a man was found hanged inside a lighthouse at Dover.

Police were called to the end of the Prince of Wales Pier by a member of the public who saw the body inside the lighthouse. A padlock on the door, which is normally locked, had been broken open.

The man, who was 35 and from Rochdale in Lancashire, was certified dead at the scene.

The end of the pier has been closed off for several days while police carry out an investigation, but they say they are not treating the death as suspicious.
