PART of the M2 motorway had to be shut after police received reports of a man about to jump off the Medway bridge.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.30pm on Monday after onlookers saw the man the "wrong side" of the railings on the London bound-carriageway of the bridge between junctions one and two.

Both sides of the carriageway were closed while officers dealt with the incident.

The man was taken away by police after being coaxed down.

Traffic was being diverted away from the area and the road was reopened at around 1.30pm.
