Manager Andy Hessenthaler believes Gillingham can prove doubters wrong and gain a League 2 play-off place

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler is determined to prove the doubters wrong after his side’s promotion hopes were left out of their hands at Priestfield on Saturday.
The 4-2 defeat to lowly Macclesfield means the Gills need a result at title-chasers Chesterfield this weekend and other results to go their way to gain a play-off place. It is something Hessenthaler still feels his shell-shocked side can do.
"I would love to prove people wrong," said the Gills manager (pictured). "We proved people wrong earlier on in the season when things weren’t happening for us. Can we prove people wrong again? Everyone will be writing us off but you never know.
"We want to get promoted and some people think we won’t do that now but we still have a shout and we are not out of it.
"We know what we have to do. Can we do it? I believe we can."
Hessenthaler knows home performances have let his side down, having collected just two points from a possible 12 in the last four games. It leaves Gills a place outside the play-offs heading into the final weekend.
"The players are all desperate to bounce back and get promoted," Hessenthaler added. "We will make sure we are nice and positive this week and go to Chesterfield and have a right go for it."
