Many happy returns to Chatham Dockyard
16:13, 05 April 2004
FORMER employees of Chatham Dockyard flocked in their hundreds to the place where they once worked, to meet old friends, make new ones, and see how the Yard has developed since its closure as an MOD establishment 20 years ago.
It was a re-union organised by the Historic Dockyard Trust as a tribute to the men and women who built and repaired ships during its long career as a working dockyard. A yard which had served the Royal Navy from the days of sale to the nuclear age.
About 500 former employees, some in their late 80s, arrived with wives and guests for the re-union. Some came from as far away as Scotland and Devonshire.
Pictures of the special day can be purchased from the KM Group's photo sales department at Larkfield or from any of our office front counters around the county.
People can order by phone using their credit cards so long as they have the PD number quoted below the photograph.
