Redstone Racing lead the way in the independent class following the latest round of the British Toruing Car Championship.

And a win for Mat Jackson at Thruxton sees him top the independent drivers’ standings on another successful weekend for the Wrotham-based team.

In the overall standings Redstone sit second behind the Honda Racing team and Jackson is fourth after three rounds.

All three Redstone drivers qualified in the top ten with Jackson starting fourth on the grid, Aron Smith secured seventh and Liam Griffin clinched his best ever qualifying position in ninth.

Jackson snatched the lead in the opening race, during treacherous driving conditions, but team-mate Griffin was unable to build on a good grid position as he crashed heavily.

The race was red-flagged because of the crash, enabling Jackson to take the win. Smith, meanwhile, finished seventh.

Jackson claimed another podium place in race two, claiming third, while Griffi’s car was patched up and that allowed him to complete the race, finishing 17th. Smith was eighth.

In the final race Jackson took sicth, Griffin was 12th and Smith crossed the line in 15th.

Redstone team manager Oly Collins said: "That was somewhat better than I expected and the whole team were outstanding. Qualifying was a great result on Saturday and to add a win was fantastic; Mat drove perfectly."

Dartford’s Tony Gilham was hoping to build on a third place finish during the BTCC’s last outing, but after qualifying 12th, his best finish over the three races was a ninth in race two.

At the same circuit Maidstone’s James Dixon, racing for Scuderia Vittoria, claimed a sixth in race one and then finished four in the second outing in the Renault Clio Cup Championship.
