Parts of east Kent woke to a blanket of snow this morning - and more is due later.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the county today as the cold snap continues.

Up to four inches of snow are expected in parts of Kent with temperatures dropping to -6C tonight.

Snow showers have been reported across east Kent this morning - mainly around the coast.

The white stuff began settling in Dover, Deal, Sandwich, Ramsgate, Margate, Whitstable and Herne Bay as well as in Canterbury.

The Met Office said the snow flurries will be quite localised, with many parts of Kent - especially in the west of the county - not seeing any showers.

It said snow could build to as much as four inches in places.

Drivers are warned to take extra care on the roads and train passengers are advised to be aware of the risk of disruption to their journeys.
