Midge leads way on nostalgia trip
09:09, 26 July 2002
ROCK chick Chrissie Hynde had Medway fans jumping up and down and singing their hearts out at a concert in Rochester last night. A crowd of thousands turned up at Rochester Castle gardens as the first of this year's Summer Concerts got under way.
Joining Chrissie and The Pretenders was Midge Ure, who got the evening started with a string of his favourite hits to warm up the 4,000-strong audience. Then it was over to Chrissie and her crew, who continued the nostalgic trip through some of the greatest songs ever written.
Both gave lively and entertaining sets, joking with the crowd and playing the numbers they have become synonymous with. As the light faded, the music carried over the river and the night came to a close with Chrissie Hynde singing Stand by Me and Don't Get Me Wrong.
