The Alfa Romeo MiTo is now available with the two-cylinder TwinAir engine first seen in the Fiat 500.

The turbocharged 875cc engine has been added to the range as a town-biased powerplant option, with up to 67.3mpg and 98g/km of CO2 emissions.

It's the first in a series of forthcoming two-cylinder petrol engines that the Fiat Group will unveil over the coming months.

With up to 25% more torque than the MiTo's existing petrols, the TwinAir promises more oomph around town, along with a more characterful thrumming soundtrack.

A stop-start system is standard, along with new technology to reduce vibration from the engine. On the fun side, Alfa's D.N.A. drive mode selector alters how the engine responds, biasing towards fun, fuel economy or low-grip predictability.

The TwinAir MiTo will be available in two trims; Sprint and Distinctive, priced at £14,150 and £15,350 respectively. Distinctive models get larger alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, chrome detailing and red brake callipers.
