Barrie 'Swampy’ Ridley, from Queenborough, beat 80,000 people to make it onto Channel 4’s hit show Shipwrecked. In this weekly column, he shares his experiences with Emma Grove.

Sunday’s episode of Shipwrecked saw new arrivals Beau and Josh having to choose which island they wanted to live on.

Both of them enjoyed their time on Tiger island, and came over to the Sharks as Tigers.

Josh remained a Tiger, but Beau was starting to sway and when it came to the beach party both arrivals picked Tigers.

Then it was down to the Tigers to chose which would stay on Tiger island and they chose Josh, seeing Beau sent to Hawk island.

Barrie said: “We did expect them to say Tigers as we knew Josh was a Tiger through and through.

“They were really cool people but just not suited to the Sharks.

“It would have been great to see Josh on Hawk island though, it would’ve been hilarious.”

During Josh and Beau’s time on Shark island there was a pontoon race, which is where a klaxon sounds and a member from each island has to swim to the pontoon in the middle of the two islands.

It was battle of the 'Scousers’ this week, with Danny racing for the Sharks, and Susan for the Tigers.

After a head to head race that started off quite close, Susan began to tire and a triumphant Danny was able to claim the prize for the Sharks.

The prize was a solar shower and some luxury shower products.

Barrie said: “We were really proud of Danny, he did really well.

“He started swimming the wrong way with the current and we were screaming at the tops of our voices.

“But he did such a good job, I couldn’t have done it – I’d still be there now.”

However, after the race, on Susan’s return to Tiger island, she told her fellow islanders that Danny had not been wearing his Shark necklace when he was on the pontoon – which is a rule break.

And at the beach party the following day Susan confronted him and asked if he was aware he had broken the rules.

Barrie tells us: “They didn’t show the full conversation between Danny and Susan – they were shouting and screaming at each other and it went on for about 15 minutes.

“It was because Susan seemed so desperate to get back and tell the Tigers about the rule break, and as soon as the Tigers stepped onto our island for the beach party they mentioned it.”

After Josh and Beau had made their decision, it came down to punishment for Danny’s rule break.

The Sharks had to pass over their hard earned winnings to the Tigers, which was even harder for Barrie as he had spent most of the day building a shower cubicle for all the Sharks to use.

He said: “I was absolutely gutted about losing the prizes, especially as the shower cubicle I spent all day building was one of the first things I really built.”

The end of the episode showed two new arrivals speeding towards the island, and just as the boat came into view, an argument started between Tom and Lauren.

Barrie said: “It is because Tom really wanted a blue eyed blonde girl to come onto the island, and every time someone comes, he is disappointed they aren’t.

“Lauren takes it personally and really takes it to heart – but then they start arguing when the new arrivals are on their way.”

The new arrivals this week are Sarah and Dale, and Barrie reveals it is a win for the Sharks – even though most of the time they spent on the island, everybody was unwell, so they didn’t think they would chose them.

A teaser Barrie gives us for the coming episodes, is that the Sharks wake one morning to find a message written in the sand from Adam saying: “It’s been emotional. Bye”

All they can see is this message and Adam swimming to Tiger island – which makes them think he is leaving.

Swimming to the other islands is a big rule break, but you will have to stay tuned to see what the punishment is for the Sharks.
