New kerbs slow speeding drivers

Speeding drivers are being slowed down in Littlebourne thanks to a new scheme.
Kerbs which intrude into the road are being put into Littlebourne Hill in response to complaints about motorists going too fast.
Littlebourne Parish Council and its KCC member, Cllr Michael Northey, have been instrumental in pushing the scheme through.
Cllr Northey said: “It’s really good to see the kerbs in place at Littlebourne. They are already making a colossal difference.
“I’ve seen many cars just having to stop and let others pass. Everything seems much calmer and there’s no doubt the kerbs will help to protect the row of parked cars and other property.
“Above all, they will slow down traffic and help protect lives.”
The scheme cost £17,000 – of which £7,000 came from Cllr Northey’s members’ grant. He is also pressing for lower speed limits on the road between Wingham and Littlebourne.
Cllr Mick Giles, vice-chairman of the parish council, says the parish will pay for plants for the kerbs.
“That will make them visually more attractive and hopefully drivers will see them more easily,” he said.
“Obviously, we are very grateful to Michael Northey for all he’s been able to do for us, but we have more to do as this is just one part of our traffic plan for Littlebourne.”
