New signings on show as Gillingham overcome Ashford United

Gillingham paraded six of their new signings on Wednesday night during a historic night in Ashford.
Over 1,000 supporters attended the pre-season fixture which marked the return of a senior Ashford football team to Homelands after a year hiatus.
First half goals from Luke Rooney, Lewis Montrose and Dennis Oli helped complete a 3-0 win for the Gills against their newly formed Kent Invicta League opponents.
Along with new signings Ross Flitney, Matt Fish, Montrose, Charlie Lee, Chris Whelpdale and Danny Kedwell there was also a trio of players on trial.
Pick of these was former Barnet keeper Jake Cole (pictured), who kept goal for the Gills in the second half. The out-of-contract player started his career at QPR, before moving onto Barnet, where under the management of Gills assistant boss Ian Hendon he played a full season. He was released at the end of last season.
Also in the line-up was striker Gregory N’Goyi and Faversham defender Jack Baldwin.
Gillingham first half: Flitney, Fish, King, Davies, Martin, Rooney, Montrose, J Payne, Spiller, N’Goyi, Oli.
Gillingham second half: Cole, Jackman, Baldwin, Richards, Evans, Rance, Lee, Weston, Whelpdale, Kedwell, S Payne.
