Initial details of the next Vauxhall Astra VXR have been released, including power outputs, top speed and equipment.

The car will be based on the Astra GTC, which has already acquired a fine reputation for handling.

Powered by a 276bhp 2.0-litre engine that also pushes out 295lb/ft of torque, its top speed is 155mph - although it's not yet known whether this is organic or limited.

The Astra VXR will go on display at the Geneva Motor Show, which will open to the press on Tuesday, March 6.
