Land Rover has published the first pictures of its considerably lighter, roomier new Range Rover.

Sporting a more luxurious interior, the new Range Rover will have a lightweight aluminium body that is 39% lighter than the steel body enveloping the previous model.

In fact, the overall weight saving is claimed to be 420kg; equivalent to two large motorbikes.

As a result fuel economy and emissions will see huge improvements, although actual figures have not yet been officially confirmed.

Adaptive driving dynamics will ensure what Land Rover hopes will be a peerless ride quality, while the introduction of Terrain Response 2 Auto improves what was already a sterling off-road skill set.

There will be more legroom inside, with passengers in the back getting increased space and comfort - not that such things were ever in short supply.

Land Rover global brand director John Edwards said: "The new Range Rover preserves the essential, unique character of the vehicle - that special blend of luxury, performance and unmatched all-terrain capability.

"However, its clean sheet design and revolutionary lightweight construction have enabled us to transform the experience for luxury vehicle customers, with a step change in comfort, refinement and handling to create the most capable Range Rover ever built."

With first deliveries to customers due from early next year, the new 4x4 vehicle will be made at the company's Solihull plant in the West Midlands. Prices will be confirmed in early September.
