A family business in Medway is celebrating its 20th birthday .

Lakeside Timber is thriving despite the current economic climate and the man who runs it, Del Peters, says the firm is busier than ever.

He employs 10 people at the site, which has been run from site in Napier Road, Gillingham, for the past 10 years.

Before that his business was in nearby Borough Road.

Del, 58, is married with two children.

He said: “We are still going strong and are busier than ever, there will be no redundancies here.

“It’s as if there is not a recession on for us and I’ve employed some of the people who work here for 20 years.”

The firm supplies a wide range of doors, windows, decking, building materials, wood and accessories.

Del is taking his entire workforce and their partners for an Italian meal in Greenwich to celebrate their milestone anniversary, and afterwards the group will visit a comedy club.

Del added: “I think our success is down to the friendly service

we offer along with our competitive prices.

Customers get a personal service from us and I hope the business is still here in 20 years time, but by then hopefully my children will be running it, so I can go and play more golf.
