We're now in the festive period which is a busy one for us players and while we try to enjoy ourselves, we have to watch what we eat and drink.
We need to make sure we’re ready for all the games coming up. I’ll have a bit of turkey and veg on Christmas Day but I’ll be steering clear of all the chocolates and mince pies.
We will probably be training as the rest of you are tucking into pancakes, bagels or whatever your Christmas morning tradition is.
It’s something that comes part and parcel of being a footballer and we are lucky to be able to make a living from playing football. We want to get a result on Boxing Day as it’s a big game against Brentford who have been having a decent run so we have to prepare right.
After Brentford, we then have another chance of getting some points, against Exeter. If we travel down there and give it a real go like we did at Huddersfield, then we have a good chance of winning.
Saturday was a good result and a special day for me as it was my 100th appearance for the Gills. Considering the conditions, and the fact that Stockport are fighting for their lives, 3-1 was a nice return for the fans who played a huge part in the win.
It wasn’t just their noise and support we received during the game but also all the work put in by dozens of dedicated supporters, who helped shovel the snow and clear the covers off the pitch to get the game on.
That gave us a chance of getting three points to help us climb the table.
When we arrived we thought there was no chance to get the go-ahead but after a lot of hard work, the pitch managed to be cleared despite Danny Ellis (fitness coach) trying to order everyone around and telling them to lift from the knees not from the back.
I’m surprised he wasn’t timing some of you and getting you to beat your previous times!
We started the game well and opened the scoring with a great goal from Dennis Oli. He showed great technique to score with a scissor kick into the top corner. I’ve seen Den score a few of those and it was great for him get on the scoresheet.
We then extended the lead when Fab collected Jacko’s lay-off and showed lovely feet to side-skip two defenders and smash the ball across the keeper to make it 2-0.
The third was an incredible strike of amazing skill, technique, finesse and precision. Okay, maybe that’s overdoing it but I was pleased with it.
I had a decent touch to set it up and it sat up nicely for me to strike across the keeper and it gave us a nice cushion to go into half-time with.
The second half was slightly different as Stockport showed some fighting spirit. They sent everyone forward and went for broke. It earned them a goal from long range. They made us slightly uncomfortable as we didn’t keep the ball like we did in the first half but we saw the match through and took the points.
The conditions on Saturday were cold, to say the least. Fab came in at half-time and we all thought he had broken his arm. It turned out he was just really cold!
After 10 minutes under the hairdryer and putting on some gloves, he made it out for the second half!
Have a fantastic Christmas everyone and a happy new year.
