A convicted killer who escaped prison and was found with his girlfriend hiding out in a Medway guest house has been sent back to jail.

Lyndon Coles, 45, and his girlfriend Nicole McMurray, were found hiding at the Regents Guest House, in Maidstone Road, Chatham, on Thursday, March 19, after being on the run for five days.

The pair were found at the bed and breakfast after a joint operation between Kent and Humberside Police.

Coles was convicted of the murder of Shane George, who was shot dead as he opened his door in Coltman Street, Hull, in 1994.

He had escaped from Kirklevington Prison, near Yarm, Cleveland.

Coles appeared before Hull Crown Court on Monday charged with escape from lawful custody. He was given a concurrent sentence of six months.

His fiancee Nicole McMurray, 33, had also appeared before Hull Magistrates' Court at an earlier date, after being charged with assisting an escaped prisoner. She has been bailed and will appear again on May 5.
