'Once in a lifetime chance' for Kent weightlifter Jack Oliver after qualifying for London 2012 Olympic Games

Weightlifter Jack Oliver says ‘all the pain and suffering’ of the past seven years was worth it after being named in the Great Britain squad for London 2012.
The 21-year-old from Bexleyheath pledged to ‘try and make the county proud’ when he represents TeamGB in the 77kg competition at London’s ExCeL Arena on Wednesday, August 1.
Oliver has long been tipped for a bright future after breaking several records after taking up the sport at the age of 14 following a spell in gymnastics.
Oliver (pictured) said: "It’s all worth it - all the pain, all the things we have to eat and drink. The training is what has got us here.
"I’m really excited. It’s a once in a lifetime chance and I feel ready to rise to the occasion and try to make my country proud."
He revealed he had been inspired to reach the Games by Dartford coach Andy Callard.
Oliver said: "My coach went to the Barcelona Olympics and I’ve always set out to try and beat him, lift more than him, get there quicker than him. We’re very competitive."
He wouldn’t reveal his targets for the Games, but revealed: "I don’t think we could do any more to prepare, we just have to keep going, training six hours a day, and then when we get there lift some PBs.
"Being on the platform is the first achievement. We’ll see how we go. I have some ideas and targets in my head, but the simple aim for us is to be on the big stage, enjoy the experience and set some PBs."
