Our panel of Gillingham fans were not impressed by the quality of the performance from Andy Hessenthaler's men in Saturday's goalless draw against Hereford at Priestfield.

"An abysmal game and two more crucial points dropped for Gillingham. Our structure was all wrong as it was plain to see that we had no-one on the right in an attacking position as Hess had decided to put three central midfielders on, in a 4-4-2 formation, which doesn’t work as we were so cramped for space.

"We looked brighter when we brought on Rooney, Spiller and Oli, who could create some width and stretch the game. Why didn’t we start like that?

"A very disappointing result and it will be a struggle to finish in the play-offs now."

David Garth

"It was a truly horrible game and it felt as though we had lost to be honest. Despite a bright start, we never really got to grips with Hereford’s tactics of getting 10 men behind the ball and wasting time almost from the first few minutes - why didn’t the referee sort it out?

"With the exception of Matt Lawrence, the whole Gillingham side were well below par, and the midfield never got to grips with the game.

"There was virtually no good football at all. Fleetwood apart, Hereford resembled a pub team and were quite content to lump the ball as far away from their goal as they could and in the second half they spent most of the time kicking for touch to waste even more time.

"It was only when Hessie brought on Luke Rooney that we had anyone willing to run with the ball and by then it was too late and with Bayo well marked by two players throughout the game we looked devoid of a Plan B.

"A point really was all we deserved. When I got home I said that we lost 0-0 – that’s what it felt like."

"Another game and another draw - unfortunately this one cost us more with all the teams above winning.

"I was a little worried pre-Cheltenham that we wouldn’t get anything and had a horrible feeling we’d drop out of the play-offs on the final game of the season. Yesterday’s game did not help with those fears!

"Hereford came for a point. They closed us down and denied us space and we couldn’t find an answer. All in all it was a pretty dire performance - only the cameo of Rooney and his good showing offered any real cheer.

"I don’t think we can play Weston (right) and Maher against teams who press. Maher isn’t quick enough anymore and Curtis is far too casual. The team needs to sort itself out for the away trip to Lincoln. The performance needs to improve otherwise we won’t be getting promoted this season."

Saturday's game was yet another one to forget (and there have been quite a few this season, certainly more than those you wish to remember). We huffed and puffed but just did not get going.

Despite saying every week that he will threshen things up, Hess fails to do so. Each week he has to make changes to affect the game, then reverts back to the same ineffective starting line-up and and formation.

Sadly a frustrating display by an over fussy referee did nothing but make a poor game even worse.

As usual, we were left wondering if only Cody's early lob had gone in...

Automatic promotion is now lost, with the play-offs far from certain, and even if we do achieve a top seven finish, with our form, I wouldn't want to bet on us.

"Not a classic was it! Like watching head tennis. A point ground out for us, utter frustration for the Gills but neither team made the most of the few chances that came their way.

"The referee had a bit of a tough time, perhaps he was a little too pedantic on the minor things, but the players know the rules (don’t they?).

"It was not a game for the purists, but then with what was at stake for both teams it was never going to be pretty.

"I was lucky enough to get an invite to the directors’ box and enjoy some half-time and post-match hospitality. This is something Gillingham do well."
