He triumphed in Celebrity Big Brother, but now it is time for Julian Clary to get back to the day job.

The first week of warm-ups for his new stand-up tour – Position Vacant, Apply Within – includes three Kent dates, which are handy for getting back to his seven-bedroom farmhouse in Aldington, formerly by playwright Noel Coward.

In trademark style, the camp comic won over audiences on the Channel 5 programme, fighting off competition from Coleen Nolan and Martin Kemp to take the title last weekend.

Julian, in bright red lipstick and smoky eye make-up, told CBB host Brian Dowling: “I’ve never won anything in my life, what will my mother say?

“I want to say thank you, you’ve made a 53-year-old homosexual very happy.”

Now he is out the house, Julian is scouring the land in search for love, promising to leave no straight unturned.

“Because I’m still considered to be quite a catch... there’s bound to be stiff competition,” said Julian.

“Therefore I’ll be hosting ruthless elimination games. You can be sure of one thing – by the end of the evening, we’ll all be celebrating my new partnership.”

Catch him first at Margate’s Theatre Royal this Saturday, September 15. Tickets £15, box office 0845 1301786.

He then visits Canterbury’s Gulbenkian Theatre on Thursday, September 20. Tickets £15, box office 01227 769075.

He will be performing at Folkestone’s Quarterhouse on Saturday, September 22. Tickets £16, box office 01303 858500.

The tour proper visits Tunbridge Wells’ Assembly Hall Theatre on Saturday, October 6. Tickets £20, concessions £18. Box office 01892 530613.
